New conctruction tops $215 million - sets new record

The value of new construction in the city of Branson during 2006 totaled $215.9 million, breaking the record set in 2005 of $173.6 million.

Major projects permitted in December included:

$22.1 million Sight and Sound Theater Phase 2 on Shepherd of the Hills Expressway
$685,000 housing units at Fox Pointe on Vixen Circle
$3 million Cancer Center for Skaggs Community Health Center on Skaggs Road
$3 million Kohl’s Department Store on Branson Hills Parkway

“Branson continues to be a hot ticket right now for new development,” said Michael Rankin, the city’s economic development director. “And it was the Branson Landing and convention center project that really started it.”

Since 2001 when the Branson Landing project was first announced, new construction in the city has skyrocketed $175 million, from $41.3 million in ’01 to $215.9 million in ’06.
